What do you get when you put a bunch of guys in a hall for a few hours of table tennis!
Plenty of Pong is a local community event which gives ordinary blokes a chance raise money to fight against human trafficking.
All you need to do is turn up and play ping pong. Entry costs $20 - and some extra gold coin donations will get you into some novelty games. There’ll also be a BBQ with sausages, bacon and eggs for sale.
All money raised will go to International Justice Mission, a world wide agency which employs lawyers, investigators and social workers to protect those in poverty from exploitation and violence.
It’s gonna be a great night!
When: 7:30-10:30pm on Friday 7th October
Where: St Alban’s Church Hall (The Ridley Centre) at 173 Great North Rd Five Dock
Who: Plenty of Pong is open to any blokes from the local community. It’s hosted by Christ Church Inner West (which consists of St Alban’s Five Dock, St John’s Ashfield and St Oswald’s Haberfield)
Whose idea was this?
In January 2010, an everyday Aussie bloke spent two weeks in Thailand seeing firsthand the horrendous injustice associated with the trafficking and exploitation of children and teenagers. He returned to Australia feeling totally overwhelmed by the vastness of the problem but knowing that he had to do something in response. In the months that followed he became more and more convinced of the vital role that men have to play in being part of the solution to this problem. His passion gave rise to the IJM Ping Pong-a-thon.
This is the first time this event has been held at St Alban’s. We’re starting small - just 3 hours of table tennis. Next year we plan to step up to host a full 24 hour ping pong-a-thon event!
